Bachata originated in the early 1960s as a further development of the Cuban and Caribbean bolero (not to be confused with the Spanish bolero). Originally, bachata was not dance music, but a form of romantic Latin American guitar music that was mainly used to accompany couples in love.
Over time, Bachata musicians incorporated influences from other styles, such as merengue, which increased the tempo and established Bachata as dance music. From 2003, both the music and the dance experienced a real boom in the entire Hispanic Caribbean region. Global stars such as Juan Luis Guerra and Aventura helped the Bachata achieve international fame.

Today there are different Bachata styles, which differ depending on the region and development.
Traditional Bachata
The original Bachata style with simple, lateral movements and a clear rhythm – usually without complex wave movements.
Bachata Sensual – The modern variant
In recent years, Bachata Sensual has become one of the most popular dance styles. This style was developed in Spain and gives the Bachata an even more flowing, emotional and physical interpretation.
Characteristics of Bachata Sensual
Soft body and head movements for a harmonious dance feeling
The focus is on musicality and expression
With the right technique, the dance appears fluid and elegant without being suggestive
The founders of this style are Korke & Judith from Cádiz, the birthplace of Bachata Sensual. Irene & Tomás, who teach Bachata Sensual at Bailamos Salsa, also come from their talent pool.
At our dance school, we teach Bachata Sensual according to the structured and proven concept of the international dance couple Irene & Tomás.
